During a recent visit to boost ties between the UK and Busan, British Ambassador to Korea Charles Hay helped launch the “UK meets Busan” — a two-year outreach campaign that included a visit by Lord Mayor of London Alderman Jeffrey Mountevans’ in July.

While here Ambassador Hay met with Busan Mayor Seo Byung-soo and other members of the Busan Metropolitan City government, while also visiting the Busan International Finance Centre to discuss cooperation in the marine, financial services and fintech sectors with business representatives from the United Kingdom and the city, reports the Korea Times.

“Recently, we have had a number of interesting and exciting events, including a British Minister attending the D5 meeting, UK stands at G-Star and Offshore Korea and a seminar for startups ― all in Busan,” an embassy spokesperson said. “Looking to the future, Lancaster University announced the submission of a letter of intent to set up a new global campus in the new Myeongji International District.”

“Britain and Korea established diplomatic relations 132 years ago and it would be safe to say that our relations have never been as good as they are now,” Hay said during an interview last year.
